My Drone Journey
So a while ago i set out to complete my drone journey this was inspired from my previous jounrey and introduction into avation through learning about the PPL, I attained my Flyer ID form the CAA back in January via an open book exam this will last me until January of next year essentailly This exam gives me access to fly drones in the A1 and A3 catagores, meaning that you can undertake comercial work but its restriced to 150 meters from the neaeast person which doesn't make it ideal when doing things like filming outdoors, with the GVC qualification that i have done at drone pilot academy it has enabled me to perform flying of the drone at a minium distance of 50m away from the nearest person with a maxium leal height of 120m for commercial operations. The exam it self was a set of 20 questions for the A2 followed by a set of 20 questions for the GVC which includes an avation map test, where you have to use the map to find spefic objects or obsticales such as prisons, glider locations, heliports and even airports, it has other markings to denote the class of airspace as well as how high certian masts are and if there are no fly zones in effect an example of this map/chart can be found here https://exysaurzy.blob.core.windows.net/sgm1clgbup/air-navigation-charts-uk.html for the PPL version if hiw to use the chatrt/map look at https://youtu.be/R1DxCuc1oWcv the video itself is geared towards FAA rules as oppose to EASA or CAA based rules. In terms of actuall useage the question will be more light this https://youtu.be/RpLTdX8JS9g, where we can use a ruler https://transair.co.uk/pilot-supplies/rulers-and-plotters/transair-1250-0001500-000-long-ruler to help with where the hours and minutes are relative to the scale of the chart remember when looking at the charts we solve for north direction 1st and then east or west and subdivide as we need to. There is also a prtactial element to the test which is the GVC it comprises of doing emergency monourvers, atti flying and asees if the pilot in command of the drone is able to fly it safely without the use of GPS when in atti The course that i did was days with the DronePilotAcademy company and i highly recomened the expertise of Chris Wright below you can find a video of me flying the Mavic 3E for the assement after having flown the phantom 4, in an ironic twist the footage was shot on the DJI osmo 3
If you have any questions about the process, feel free to leave a comment on the video or contact me directly.
